The Secret Life of Walter Mitty Stays Cut in UK
It's still quite impossible to reliably predict the chances for British film fans whether or not they get the uncensored version of a film on DVD/BD when it was censored in cinemas before. Examples such as A Good Day to Die Hard and Jack Reacher proof that it is possible to cut for theaters but to put the uncut version on home video later on. But cases such as Immortals (see comparison) and Hunger Games (see comparison) show the opposite of that.
The latter category is now joined by another well-known film. Ben Stiller's directorial effort The Secret Life of Walter Mitty was censored for a "PG" rating in the UK (we reported). In the meantime, the BBFC has rated the version for the upcoming DVD and Blu-ray and issued the same rating again. Distributor 20th Century Fox UK seems to be willing to continue its strategy to attract a wider audience on the home video sector, as well, and accepts that the customers will only get a censored version of the film to put on their shelves.
On April 21st, 2014, the UK will get this version. If you're not willing to buy it, you can either look for the uncensored release in one of the neighboring countries in the EU or order it from the US at Amazon.com.
