Once Upon a Time in America: Extended Cut in US
Sergio Leone's last directorial effort was the masterpiece Once Upon a Time in America and has quite a long runtime of 229 minutes in the Original Cut. The American distributor decided to cut out 90 minutes but didn't gain many friends by doing so. Today, this version has vanished. But even the 229 minute version is not complete since the initial duration of the film's premiere at the Cannes festival was approx. 269 minutes.
The Italian Redux Cut aimed at coming near to this 269 minute version and was released on Blu-ray in 2012. It did, however, only reach 251 minutes as our comparison shows.
On September 30th, 2014, the film's Extended Director's Cut will have its Blu-ray release in the US. And even though Warner created a big euphoria when they initially announced a runtime of 269 minutes, they later corrected it to the already known 251 minutes from the Italian release.
You can order the Blu-ray at Amazon.com.
