Black and White Appeals R Rating Mike Binder's drama Black and White deals with Kevin Costner's character fighting for custody for his half-back, half-white daughter. When it was presented to the MPAA, the decision must have surprised the studio. The board gave the "R" rating for "brief strong language". It seems like it's not that easy to hit the fine line between securing a PG-13 rating and give a realistic portrait of the verbal battles that occur during such custody cases. It's hard to imagine that the studio didn't even censor the film itself prior to submitting it to the ratings board. Anyhow, the makers of the movie will now appeal the initial rating and hope that their film will get the desired classification without further removal of material. Black and White doesn't have a theatrical release date yet.
