The New Mutants - Reshoots for Harder Cut The New Mutants was originally scheduled for theaters in April 2018 - as hardest PG-13 movie ever made. But the release has been postponed for almost 1 entire year so that there would be enough time. That being said, there will be a further delay up until August 2019. As reported by The Tracking Board, there will be reshoots for almost 50% of the movie. It seems as if director Josh Boone originally intended to make an actual horror film that takes in the X-Men universe, planning with an R for the theatrical release. But FOX did not like it at all and insisted on a PG-13. This has also been confirmed by subsequent screenplay versions, the ones that were actually shot. Those are also the ones that were just in post production - right before FOX had a change of heart. The reasons are probably the new Deadpool, which is also rated R, and the incredibly successful It remake. It looks FOX sees more potential in a harder adaption, probably even with an R. Despite rising production costs due to the delay and reshoots.
