Jigsaw - No Unrated Version Announced for Blu-ray

No Longer Version for Home Theaters?

Eight years after the alleged final installment of the Saw series, the infamous horror franchise will be revived once again. It is not that much of a surprise though because, after all, not only were still questions still answered after Saw 3D but it also ended with a huge cliffhanger. Keeping that in mind, another sequel was rather obvious and horror fans got what they wanted: An 8th installment called Jigsaw.

Rated R (for sequences of grisly bloody violence and torture, and for language) of course, informed clienteles were aware of the fact that censoring and alternate, more harmless footage was a condition in order to get the R-rating in the first place. For that reason, the Unrated Version on Blu-ray and DVD was kind of a no-brainer and was worth it financially every time and as far as the violence goes, not a single Unrated Version of any of the 7 installments were a rip-off - unlike the Unrated Versions of lots of US comedies for instance.

With a tight budget of only $10 million, Jigsaw only grossed $38 million domestic and $100 million worldwide. Only the box office result of Saw VI was worse. And yet, it appears as if Lionsgate is not interested in releasing an uncensored Unrated Version. At least, the 4K UHD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD and digital copy announcement does not contain a single hint regarding an Unrated Version.

Of course, that still does not rule out that an Unrated Version might be released exclusively via video on demand some day (please see Texas Chainsaw 3D or The Fate of the Furious) but they might have gotten the gist of how consumers feel about that.
