Star Wars Episode 4 With 4K Treatment? The rumors regarding an HD release of the unedited theatrical version of the original Star Wars trilogy surface every other year but nothing came of it yet. On DVD, they were released within the limited editions in 2006 but all other DVD and Blu-ray releases contain the edited versions. Gareth Edwards, director of Rogue One - A Star Wars Story shared in an interview that he and some of his co-workers have seen a brand new 4K restorationn of the very first Star Wars film A New Hope (1977) at the Lucasfilm studios in San Franciso. It's unknown, however, which version is the basis of this restoration. In 2017, the film celebrates its 40th anniversary and a new Blu-ray or UHD release would be more than likely. And since Lucasfilm was sold in 2012, it also became known that 20th Century Fox acquired the rights to the two earlier trilogies until May 2020 and is also owning the first film forever (except they sell it to Disney). It'll be interesting to see what happens here in the future. ![]()
