Studio 54 - Director's Cut Release in Germany The disco movie Studio 54 already exists in 2 versions. Apart from the heavily pre-edited theatrical version, there's also an extended edition that has 7 more minutes of footage. But that's still not all there is to say about the film's different versions. On the Berlin Film Festival in 2015, a new Director's Cut has been shown that is said to include 45 minutes of new material. Reviews show that the film's content has massively changed and that it has much more substance. Hopes were raised that it might have a future on home video at some point in the future. And indeed, the German branch of StudioCanal makes the first move in the matter. The database of the German ratings board shows an entry that is marked as "Director's Cut, Berlinale 2015", leaving no doubt as to what version that is. The comparison of the runtimes shows that it runs 2 minutes longer than the extended version (thus: 9 minutes longer than the theatrical version). That doesn't mean that the Director's Cut can't contain the reported 45 minutes of new material but that it probably replaces material of the theatrical release. We'll find out soon enough when the Blu-ray is released in Germany on January 14th, 2016. ![]()
