Pompeii - Cinema Cuts Continue on UK DVD/Blu-ray

No Uncut BBFC 15 Version on Home Video

The historic action drama Pompeii couldn't really impress at the worldwide box office, barely making its $100 million budget back. The UK can't really be blamed for that since the distributor there even decided to cut the film in order to lure more people into theaters. Although a BBFC 15 rating was possible, the cuts made it suitable for the 12A classification:

This work was originally seen for advice. The company was advised that the film was likely to receive a 15 certificate but that their preferred 12A classification could be achieved by making some changes. The company was advised to reduce stronger moments of violence where there was a dwelling on particular acts and to reduce the emphasis on blood on bladed weapons. When the film was formally submitted, changes had been made which addressed these concerns. Consequently, the film was passed 12A.

In the most cases, the uncensored versions are released on home video later on. But Pompeii is one of those unfortunate cases where that doesn't happen. Entertainment One's announcement informs that the DVD, Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D will only contain the BBFC 12 version of the film. The release date is September 15th, 2014. But that's not really an option, now is it? You could avoid it by ordering the uncut US version at Amazon.com.
