Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug: Extended Cut Rated
Back in April 2014, Peter Jackson already announced that The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will get an Extended Cut. It's not a huge surprise given the release strategy of the previous Lord of the Rings trilogy and the first Hobbit film, but still, nice to know that a version is underway that adds a whopping 25 minutes to the theatrical version of the movie.
In the meantime, works on the new cut have been finished and it was submitted to the MPAA for a rating. The recent bulletin of the ratings board now lists this version with the exact same reasoning, so don't expect too much extended battle violence (or maybe do, depending on how generous the MPAA raters were). We'll compare it later.
There is no release date for the Extended Cut yet but it would be a big surprise if the studio didn't want to cash in at this year's Christmas.
