The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman Sex Cuts
Probably Censored for R-Rating, Actress Furious
When she had to get naked for her role in the mini series Mildred Pierce, actress Evan Rachel Wood told reporters how nervous she was and that she asked her experienced colleague Kate Winslet for advice. Now, three years later, Wood already complains very aggressively on Twitter about how the MPAA obviously demanded that cuts should be applied to some of her sex scenes in the film The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman. Otherwise, the action comedy romance mix might not have gotten the "R" rating.
Rachel Wood: After seeing the new cut of The Necessary Death of Charlie CountrymanI would like 2 share my disappointment with the MPAA, who thought it was necessary to censor a womans sexuality once again. The scene where the two main characters make "love" was altered because someone felt that seeing a man give a woman oral sex made people "uncomfortable" but the scenes in which people are murdered by having their heads blown off remained intact and unaltered. This is a symptom of a society that wants to shame women and put them down for enjoying sex, especially when (gasp) the man isn't getting off as well! Its hard for me to believe that had the roles been reversed it still would have been cut OR had the female character been raped it would have been cut. Its time for people to GROW UP. Accept that woman are sexual beings. Accept that some men like pleasuring woman. Accept that woman don't have to just be fucked and say thank you. We are allowed and entitled to enjoy ourselves. Its time we put our foot down.
So obviously, the sex scene was cut in which Shia LaBeouf's character pleasures Wood's character orally. The violent scenes were not affected by censorship.
It remains to be seen whether the film might get a DVD/Blu-ray release that contains a longer cut of the movie. For numerous productions, this has been a valid way out in the past.
