RoboCop - Remake to Start With PG-13 Rating

Director Confirms Rating at Comic Con

Remakes of 80's classics are not that rare in today's film industry and so it shouldn't surprise that an updated version of Paul Verhoeven's RoboCop is on the way. Sony Pictures releases it in US cinemas on February 7th, 2014.

Just as many other productions, RoboCop had a panel on this year's Comic Con and of course it didn't take long until the question regarding the rating popped up. The answer that has been given might not be satisfying for a large number of fans, though. According to director Jose Padilha, the remake will be released theatrically with a PG-13 rating:

“We were shooting the movie to be seen by the broadest possible audience, which means PG-13. This whole idea about ‘RoboCop’ has to be “R” because the first one was amazingly violent… I never really bought into that. You know, ‘The Dark Knight’ was PG-13, so you can get away with a lot.” (Source)

There you have it. Not exactly what fans wished for but they can still watch the carnage that The Wolverine brings. Say again? That's PG-13, too? Well, money talks louder than history.
