Nymphomaniac Features Body Doubles for Sex

Lars von Trier's Drama With Digital Alterations

We reported a while ago that Lars von Trier's sex drama Nymphomaniac was offered to the various distributors in two versions - with and without hardcore sex scenes. Now, a few more details have surfaced regarding these hardcore scenes that potentially involve actors such as Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgård, Shia LaBeouf, Christian Slater, Jamie Bell, Uma Thurman, Willem Dafoe (no details yet on who participates in such practices).

The hardcore scenes in Nymphomaniac will be a composition out of the real actors and their body doubles. There will be scenes which feature a complete body but while the upper half belongs to the actor, the lower body is provided by the double. Computer effects will make the magic happen. Of course, this technique isn't anything new and quite often in use in action scenes where the head of an actor is placed on the body of a stunt man.

However, the film faces early criticism because the discussion about the sex scenes and the two versions is seen by many as a simple gimmick to raise attention. Also, the question remains how much the story of the film has to suffer when the main focus of the viewers is to assess how those digital effects have been made.

The film starts in Denmark on December 25th, 2013.
