Jack Reacher - Exclusive Trailer Scene Trouble

How Much Money is a Second Worth? The Ticket?

Yeah, this story is somewhat thin and comes from the other end of the world but it's so cute that we can amuse ourselves with it over the course of the weekend.

The trailer for Tom Cruise's action thriller Jack Reacher featured a short scene with an exploding rock wall. The film itself did not contain this shot. Normally, that's not uncommon. What looks interesting and spectacular in the trailer, doesn't necessarily make sense in the film's plot and then it just ends up on the cutting room floor. And there are way worse examples of such practice, e.g. Soldier or The Amazing Spider-Man.

In New Zealand, however, there was a cinemagoer who complained about it to the Advertising Standards Authority that the explosion scene from the trailer wasn't in the film. He was angry because this scene was one of the reasons he went to the cinema.

"[The] explosion where the whole cliff comes down [was] the defining part of the ad that made me really want to go see the movie... aside from having Tom Cruise in it."

Paramount found that a statement was in order:

"Despite our best intentions, it is always possible that certain scenes appearing in an advertisement or trailer may not appear in the final version of a film. The explosion in question was a single split-second element omitted from a 130-minute long action film and [we] believe that, taken as a whole, the impression created by the advertisement was a true and fair reflection of the film."

They finally paid the disappointed man back his entrance money and we all hope that the situation took a good ending with this.
