G.I. Joe: Retaliation Banned in Pakistan Those who have already seen G.I. Joe: Retaliation know that the opening scene takes place in Pakistan. And the picture the film paints of the country is a chaotic one where anarchy reigns and where the Joes try to secure all nuclear weapons before terrorists can get to them. Pakistan as a failed country. That certainly isn't a picture that the administration wants to see. Therefore, they banned the Hollywood movie, plain and simple. Even such fantasy action spectacles are not allowed to create such a negative impression of the country.
The distributor did fear that outcome but tried it anyway and failed. Also, all trailers have to disappear from Pakistani cinemas. A similar fate had Zero Dark Thirty recently.
