E.T.: Blu-Ray will be released in 2012
E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial is considered to be a milestone of the science fiction genre and is one of the most successful movies of the 1980's. In 2002 Steven Spielberg released a special edition with new effects and digital alterations. One of the most controversial alterations was the fact that all weapons were digitally replaced by walkie-talkies.
Today, Spielberg is no longer happy with this version; he stated this opinion quite a few times in interviews during the past few years - e.g. during a special screening for "Raiders of the Lost Ark". There he also announced the planned Blu-Ray release of E.T. in 2012 which then should only include the theatrical version and not the much hated Special Edition. However, so far there's not specific releasedate, yet. See the comparison between the theatrical version and the 2002 Special Edition here
