World War Z Will be More Violent on Blu-ray

Theatrical Version is Director's Cut, But Censored

Last weekend, the sinfully expensive PG-13 zombie action movie World War Z starring Brad Pitt was released in cinemas in the US and some other countries to some satisfying box office numbers. After all the trouble regarding re-shoots and production difficulties (see more details here), there still seems to be a chance that the film makes money in the end.

Meanwhile, the info has emerged that practically the whole 3rd act of the film is new, which also means that a complete final battle set in Moscow was removed and replaced by something more subtle. But also before that, new scenes were included that are supposed to help the viewer to develop an emotional relationship with the characters instead of just consuming an action overkill from a distance.

As director Marc Forster confirms in an interview with the German magazine Focus this week, the new version that came into cinemas is his Director's Cut. He obviously doesn't miss the big action scene at the end of the film. Although one should never rule out that it might end up in the bonus section of the future home video releases.

But that is not all and now it gets exciting: Forster also confirms to Focus that World War Z will have a harder version on DVD/BD because the PG-13 rating in the US was a problem that limited the things they could show. And as one of our colleagues could already confirm, the theatrical version basically doesn't have any blood. That's unusual for a zombie movie but according to Forster, that is about to change once the DVD/BD gets released.
