Prometheus gets the Extended Cut A few weeks ago, the all-dominating question was whether Ridley Scott's Alien prequel Prometheus would have to be censored for a PG-13 rating or comes into cinemas in its uncut form. In the end, the "R" was given and it was declared as Ridley Scott's Director's Cut. However, this is not the end of the story. In the meantime, the director confirmed (spoilers ahead!) that the home video releases will offer an Extended Cut that will approximately run 20 minutes longer. This isn't final yet since Scott is still working on the cut. Additionally, there will be deleted scenes that could add up to another 30 minutes of material. Prometheus itself divides fans and critics in its Director's Cut version with a little over 2 hours of runtime. Even though the overall tone is positive, there are still many of those who are rather disappointed because some story elements remain unclear and the film appears too ambitious. It remains to be seen how the Extended Cut can improve these criticized aspects but that will surface once the longer version hits on Blu-ray (and maybe even DVD) possibly later this year. An official date for the Extended Cut is not known at this point, but we'll keep track of it for sure.
