The Expendables 3 - Censored for PG-13 Rating Even though the news is out that The Expendables 3 will be released in cinemas in a PG-13 version (for violence including intense sustained gun battles and fight scenes, and for language), it wasn't known whether that was achieved by the studio on the first try or whether the MPAA demanded additional cuts for the rating. Collider now reports that the first round at the MPAA wasn't satisfactory for the studio because it ended with the "R" instead of the desired PG-13. "While you might think The Expendables 3 is taking it easy on the violence, think again. I’ve learned from sources that the film just squeaked by the MPAA with a PG-13 rating, and they had to make trims to get there after the first pass was given an R." Of course, this doesn't shed light on the question as to how much of the violence was removed prior to the first MPAA submission. But since we now know that there are scenes that are missing in the theatrical version, the probability of a longer cut on home video is rising. Expendables 3 starts in US cinemas on August 15th, 2014.
