Sausage Party Currently Still on NC-17 Level

Long Overdue Pixar Parody by Rogen and Goldberg

As Seth Rogen recently told in an interview once again, Sausage Party is something that no studio dared to touch. It's an animation film with a middle budget and a hard "R" rating that makes fun of all kids films out there, especially targeting Pixar and its Toy Story films where it borrows its structure from.

The film deals with a group of sausages that are shelved in a supermarket and await their purchase and thus their departure from the store. And every one of them has a different expectation of what waits behind the door. Similarly to Toy Story, the food in this movie appears to be motion and lifeless but gets crazy after the market is closed.

Apart from the usual suspects of the Rogen/Goldberg cooperations, other stars such as Edward Norton will have voicing roles.

James Weaver: "The quick pitch is that it takes place in a grocery store that sort of has similar rules to Toy Story where food comes to life after all the customers leave and our sort of lead character is a hot dog named “Frank”, who Seth Rogen is going to be the voice of, and he and his fellow sausages as well as the whole grocery store belive in the great beyond. And the great beyond is what happens when you leave the store; every food in the store believes something different happens in the great beyond."

The "R" rating is currently a goal for the film that has yet to be reached. As of right now, the makers are convinced that it is closer to the "NC-17" rating. If it wants to have a mainstream theatrical release, censorship seems to be unavoidable.

Evan Goldberg: "The current version is NC-17."

The film is still in development so there's currently no release date set for it. Somewhere in 2015 is most likely the time that the Sausage Party will be held.
