The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug gets Extended It's no big surprise but rather the question when it would be officially announced and now it has happened: the extended version of The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug will have its own release. Director Peter Jackson himself confirmed the good news on his Facebook page:
As of right now, there's no release date for the Extended Cut but it seems likely that it will be out just in time for Christmas and the theatrical start of the third and final Hobbit film (which has also been retitled to The Battle of the Five Armies.
