Anchorman 2 gets New R-Rated Theatrical Release
The makers of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues sure try to squeeze out all the financial potential there is. An alternate "R" rated version was hinted at earlier on but then a PG-13 version got a wide release and everything looked like business as usual. But even though the MPAA's guidelines are generally quite strict on such practices, the "R" version is in fact coming to theaters for a limited release. Starting February 28th, 2014, the "Super-Sized R-Rated Version" will allegedly offer 763 new gags and will try to put some money on top of the $125 million box office. The existence of that much alternate material was mentioned earlier.
It remains to be seen whether this version will be identical to the Unrated/Extended Version that gets released on Blu-ray in April 2014. However it plays out, the Will Ferrell overkill will be served to both fans and haters.
