Snowflake - The White Gorilla Cut in the UK

A Bad Word had to be Removed for the Kids

One of the export hits of countries outside of the US are child-oriented animation films. Mostly, they can't compete with the big competition from Hollywood but the kids don't mind that as long as the story is entertaining. One of these productions is Snowflake - The White Gorilla, a Spanish film with a plot revolving around a rare albino gorilla.

While the film is probably uncensored in Spain, the UK goes a different way in order to secure the "U" rating. The uncensored version would have gotten a "12" classification and that surely doesn't sit well with the target audience. Only one word had to be removed to reach that goal:

Distributor chose to cut a use of discriminatory language ('spaz') to achieve a U classification. Cut made in accordance with BBFC Guidelines and policy. A 12 without cuts was available.

The Brits didn't like the word in Ice Age 4 and removed it there from the audio descriptive version, as well.
