The Equalizer 2 Censored For Lower BBFC 15 Rating

Denzel Washington Avenges With Less Violence

Putting the storyline aside for a moment, the action flick The Equalizer (2014), directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Denzel Washington, was pretty rough and violent. In the UK, the movie was cut in order to get the lower and more lucrative BBFC 15 rating (comparison).

The sequel The Equalizer 2 is not expected to be any less harmless than the first one. In the UK, history repeats itself: A BBFC 18 for Uncut Version would have been possible, the studio prefered a censored BBFC 15 version though - as stated by the BBFC:

During post-production, the distributor sought and was given advice on how to secure the desired classification. Following this advice, certain changes were made prior to submission

This film was originally seen for advice at which stage the company was informed it was likely to be classified 18 uncut but that their preferred 15 classification could be achieved by making reductions to scenes of strong violence and gore. When the film was submitted for formal classification these scenes had been acceptably reduced.

The plural "scenes" makes it clear that there are several alterations. Hopefully, the Uncut Version will be available on Blu-ray/DVD (which was not the case with the original).
