Chaos Walking - Week-Long Reshoots for Sci-Fi Film

Expensive YA Film with D. Ridley and T. Holland

Even though Lionsgate did not finish their previous Young Adult series based on the Divergent books because it simply was not successful enough anymore, the studio makes another attempt to make money with a high budget Sci-Fi series. And it makes because the genre is not dead yet - as proven by the last installment of the Maze Runner series which made approx. §300 million worldwide. The latest installment, Chaos Walking, is supposed to be in theaters in March 2019.

With a budget of almost §100 million, the plan was to play it save and hire both Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley. As for the director, the studio took a chance and hired Doug Liman who is not exactly known for frictionless productions. Most of the time, there was trouble in paradise - Edge of Tomorrow, Mr. and Mrs. Smith or The Bourne Identity would be a few examples. But not because Liman lacks talent but because his creativity usually leads to chaos. It should not come as a surprise that there will be a lot of reshoots for Chaos Walking in order to bring the project back on track - as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

It is still not clear what kind of new scenes will be shot but the bigger issue here is the tight schedule of both of the stars. Ridley is about to shoot Episode IX and Holland is about to shoot the new Spider-Man movie. In other words, the reshoots will probably not start until the end of the year. If this causes issues with the scheduled theatrical release in March 2019 is the million dollar question here but it is simply too soon to tell. However, it is possible.
