Spawn - New Film Probably With R-Rating When the comic adaptation Spawn hit cinemas in 1997, the commercial success was just as mediocre as the reception by critics and fans. And that despite its ingredients for a trashy film evening. What probably didn't help either was the fact that it was released in theaters with a PG-13 rating. The eventual Director's Cut was more violent and longer but didn't improve the film considerably (see comparison). Since then, there have been plans to bring the character to the big screen once more and now it finally seems to happen. Todd McFarlane has completed the script and says that it's in "hard R" territory.
Still, it'll probably take some time until the new Spawn movie hits cinemas and we'll see if the studio will follow McFarlane's vision.
