World War Z Gets a PG-13 Rating Zombie films that are also suitable for kids are a rarity and Warm Bodies was the romantic exception lately. Especially in the US, there's mostly nothing rated below "R", which means that kids can't see without an adult guardian. But what choice does a production company have when the budget is $175 million and doubles when we add the marketing costs to that. With an "R" rating, World War Z would have had no chance to gain any financial success at the box office. A PG-13 is a necessity and will end up delivering less horror and carnage and more action and CGI crowds of humans. WWZ is already under attack because it differs heavily from the book it is based on. The novel describes the outbreak of a zombie epidemic from the point of view of different characters and they are relatively unconnected to each other. The film chooses to tell a story, instead. Now, the rating is another punch in the face of the fans that is a wholly different category than the alterations for China were. Zombies and PG-13 don't really like each other that well. World War Z starts in US and UK cinemas on June 21st, 2013.
