Evil Dead - Extended Cut Shown on British TV

Unexpected Delight for Fans of the Remake

The Evil Dead remake was cut for the "R" rating prior to the film's theatrical release and while an Unrated Cut was briefly discussed, nothing came of it. The final version was even called the "director's cut" of Fede Alvarez.

But a hugely surprising event has occurred: the British "Channel 4" showed a version of the film that includes several new scenes that were missing in cinemas. Among them, there's also more violence such as the chainsaw scene that was teased in the trailer.

According to attentive users in the IMDB, the English TV version has at least those new scenes:

  • Natalie says "Give me back my hand" when she gets possessed. (Nod to Evil Dead 2)
  • Mia sings "We're gonna get you" in the cellar (which is the infamous scene in the trailers)
  • After Natalie dies, David tells Eric he has to get rid of the bodies so he burns Olivia's body and cuts Natalie's body with a chainsaw.
  • A clip of Eric coming into the room and drinking rainwater that's in a plastic container catching dripping water.
  • There are shots of Eric burning in flames when the cabin is on fire. He says "Join us..."
  • There is a shot of David burning and he then opens his eyes, clearly possessed.
  • The final scene is Mia walking on the road. A truck driver in an S-Mart van drives and sees her.

We will, of course, take a detailed look at the issue and work on a frame-by-frame comparison right away. It will be interesting to see whether this Extended Cut will also find its way onto home video releases anytime soon. But for now, the good news is that this version has seen the light of day altogether.
