31 - Rob Zombie's Horror Movie Cut for R-Rating Shortly before Christmas, Rob Zombie announced that his new horror movie 31 was rated NC-17 by the MPAA (for sadistic graphic violence, bizarre sexuality/nudity, pervasive disturbing images and some strong language). Of course, that is a bad rating if you want to make money with it in cinemas, so cuts were made to obtain the "R". But lo and behold, the cut version was still rated NC-17. What now? Well, more cuts, of course. And third time's the charm, it seems, since the MPAA has now given its "R" blessing for strong bloody horror violence, pervasive language, sexual content and drug use. It's unknown at this point how much this version deviates from the uncut one but fans most likely wonder more about the question whether that initial NC-17 version would see the light of day on home cinema. And indeed, Rob Zombie answered a fan's question that this would be the case. So if you were debating seeing 31 in cinemas or waiting for it on Blu-ray, you may find it easier to decide now. ![]()
