Barely Lethal - Successful Appeal at the MPAA 2 weeks ago, we reported that the action comedy Barely Lethal wasn't really happy with the R rating the MPAA gave it for sexual material and teen drinking. Since the film's concept looks like it's clearly aiming at a teenage audience, the studio's decision to appeal that rating wasn't all too surprising. And that appeal obviously had a positive outcome for the studio and the film because the MPAA lowered its rating from R to PG-13, opening it up for a significantly larger audience. Maybe it's a compromise that the MPAA in turn phrased a much more elaborate rating reason as the full classification now reads: PG-13 for sexual material, teen drinking, language, drug references and some action violence. ![]()
