Philomena - Successful Appeal for the PG-13 Rating The previous battle that the Weinstein Company fought against the MPAA revolved around the documentary Bully. The ratings board gave it an "R" rating and the distributor went to great lenghts in order to get that classification lowered to a PG-13 but couldn't reach that without censorship. The language was a problem because it contained a few crude words. The British drama Philomena was a similar case but had a successful end note.
It could be suggested that the MPAA just didn't want to engage in another stand-off with Harvey Weinstein this time around since he even motivated Dame Judi Dench to be part of a James Bond parody that targeted the MPAA. Philomena eventually got the PG-13 and can keep its 2 "fucks". Philomena starts in US cinemas on November 27th, 2013. ![]()
