Olympus Has Fallen - Fuqua and Butler Talk Rating

A PG-13 was Never Planned, Real Setting Preferred

We already mentioned that the thriller Olympus Has Fallen, in which terrorists attack the White House, got a surprising "R" rating despite having an 80 million Dollar budget. Normally, such investments don't take such risks and rather play it safe with PG-13 (thanks again, Live Free or Die Hard...).

However, we get the opposite with this film. Collider sat down with director Antoine Fuqua and leading man Gerard Butler and they made clear that there was no point in making it a PG-13 vehicle nor were there any discussions about it.

Never. If it was ever brought up, it was like "bye-bye". You don't wanna see that. Do you wanna see a movie about an attack on the White House by terrorists and it's PG? How do you do that? With lollipops? You are going in, you are attacking a symbol, you are attacking a building that has a lot of meaning [...] and you're gonna pussyfoot around with that? I don't think so. You gotta show what it takes to get in that White House. You gotta earn your way in that White House. And it's gonna be through fire and blood. You're not just gonna walk in the door. So, if you gotta earn it, you're gonna see some violence. And that's what we did. We gave it to you.
