Live Free or Die Hard: First Unrated Blu-ray Soon The fourth installment of the Die Hard franchise called Live Free or Die Hard was the only film that was released with a PG-13 rating. For that classification, it had to be censored (see comparison). An Unrated Cut was released on DVD later but never came out on Blu-ray in High Definition until today. This year, a 25th Anniversary Box with all 5 films will be released as the German branch of Amazon announces. It will most likely have a summer release (Amazon has currently a placeholder date but that is subject to change). The interesting aspect here is that the 4th film is said to be included as the Unrated Cut on Blu-ray for the first time ever. This sounds like the solution to a widely discussed topic since the introduction of the Blu-ray. Normally, this medium has the upper hand in comparison to the DVD when it comes to special film versions. Live Free or Die Hard embodies one of the few well-known exceptions and fans will surely rejoice to hear this news. Currently, Amazon US and UK do not yet list the new collection with all 5 movies but its very likely that this will be just a matter of time.
