Django Unchained - Christian Group is Not Amused

Religious Group Demands NC-17 Rating for Violence

After the rampage in an elementary school in Connecticut that led to 28 dead people (mostly children), speculations are made once again about the reasons for this catastrophe. Apart from the obvious discussions about weapons, the media got their share of blame, too. Especially the Christian Film & Television Commission which is an interest group that focuses its influence mainly on Hollywood, demands that the film Django Unchained loses its "R" rating and gets elevated to an NC-17. Of course, this would mean the commercial collaps for the movie and would most likely lead to cuts.

"In light of the recent shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut where 20 first-graders and 6 staff members lost their lives, we are calling on the MPAA to give DJANGO UNCHAINED an NC-17 rating.

DJANGO UNCHAINED is the most violent movie of the year and is full of  brutality, graphic violence, and crude language. [...]

The violence is extremely grotesque including blood spurting like lava from gunshots.

The extreme violence and bloodshed is no surprise coming from director Quentin Tarantino who also directed extremely violent movies KILL BILL VOL. 1, PULP FICTION, and INGLORIOUS BASTARDS." (Source)

Quentin Tarantino replied to the press:

Tarantino: "I just think you know there's violence in the world, tragedies happen, blame the playmakers. It's a western. Give me a break."

Main actor Jamie Foxx has a different opinion on the matter even though he doesn't directly confront his director and film:

Foxx: "We cannot turn our back and say that violence in films or anything that we do doesn't have a sort of influence. It does."

At the moment, there's no sign that the MPAA will revoke the rating. The film started in US cinemas on December 25th, 2012 with an "R" rating.
