The Walking Dead Violence Gets Dialed Back

Reaction on the Brutal Start of Season 7

The outcry about the brutal opening of the first episode of The Walking Dead’s season 7 was huge. As it turns out, it has affected the production of the other episodes that came after it. The producers apparently decided to lower the level of violence in the first half of the season and the following episodes. Producer Gale Anne Hurd said in a discussion:

"We were able to look at the feedback on the level of violence. We did tone it down for episodes we were still filming for later on in the season. This is not a show that is torture porn, we don’t cross that line."

It looks like fans will have to accept that such a high level of violence will not be present in the future. In said scene, Negan has cruelly killed two of the main characters.

The second half of the 7th season of The Walking Dead starts in the US on February 13th, 2017.
