The Exorcist 3 - Director's Cut Comes in October In December 2015, it became known that William Peter Blatty worked on his cut of The Exorcist III (1990) in order to release it on Blu-ray. Back then, the film couldn't be released the way the director intended. For the final cut, several scenes were changed and cut out and the ending was severely altered, as well. Blatty wasn't happy with that but wasn't enabled to release his director's cut. In July 2016, the US label Scream Facory announced that they would release a 2-disc set on October 25th, 2016. It contains the theatrical version and - for the first time ever - the Director's Cut. This new version is said to be oriented at the original script and put together from different film and video sources. The theatrical cut was newly mastered from a 2K interpositive.
