After the action comedy Cat Run starring Paz Vega (Nurse 3-D) and Scott Mechlowicz (Eurotrip) was released in 2011 and received mostly positive reviews, some even called it an insider tip, a sequel followed in 2014. Apart from the detective duo and director John Stockwell (Into the Blue, Turistas), this sequel has nothing in common with the first film and it shows. The story is thrown together and seems to be forced, because the two heroes can't be taken seriously. While in the first film they functioned as private investigators who stumbled into their success more by happy coincidences than true skill, here they seem sometimes too clumsy and sometimes too professional. Why these two run-of-the-mill guys are actually given information is not justified by the lazy script and lack of character development. Above all, you can tell that the makers have an inspiration problem when they are using the soundtrack in a penetratingly annoying way to give scenes a humorous flavor. The rest of the plot about hypermodern armor is also fairly trashy and the lewd way in which Stockwell wanted to accommodate as much sex as possible here seems strange at times. So the question remains, who should warm up to this.

Germany, where it didn't even get a DVD or Blu-ray release, has a special role to play for Cat Run 2. In the US, the Blu-ray was originally announced with both a censored R-rated and uncensored Unrated version. However, then the Unrated disappeared from the advance covers and in the end only the R-Rated was on board. But a look at the German Amazon Prime Video is worthwhile, because there, without any announcement, the Unrated version believed lost (only) with German dubbing is rentable or purchasable. It shows how massively the various scenes with naked details or salaciousness were toned down for the R-rating. Amazon Prime Video US, meanwhile, only offers the R-rated version.

With 43 differences, the Unrated version runs 422.84 sec or about 7 minutes 3 seconds longer than the R-Rated version.
