Maze Runner 2 with Pre-Cuts in the UK

12A Rating With Suggested BBFC Adjustments

When The Maze Runner hit UK cinemas last year, the British cinemagoers had to accept to see a cut version. For the BBFC 12A rating, almost 42 seconds were cut out. On the Blu-ray steelbook, the uncensored version came out but the regular BD and DVD still contain the cut version.

A similar situation could happen with the sequel Maze Runner 2 - The Scorch Trials. Again, the film was cut for a 12A rating and the BBFC was consulted during post-production on how to secure that rating. 20th Century Fox followed their advice:

During post-production, the distributor sought and was given advice on how to secure the desired classification. Following this advice, certain changes were made prior to submission

This work was originally seen for advice. The company was advised that the film was likely to receive a 15 certificate but that their preferred 12A classification could be achieved by making some changes. The company was advised to reduce moments of threat and 'horror' involving zombie-like characters, and to reduce the focus on injury in a scene in which a man is beaten for information. When the film was formally submitted, changes had been made and, consequently, the film was passed 12A.

Maze Runner 2 starts in UK cinemas today.
