Fifty Shades of Grey and the NC-17 Version

Would Have Been Nice, Huh?

We reported earlier that producer Dana Brunetti entertained the idea that the bestseller adaptation Fifty Shades of Grey could be released in cinemas with 2 versions: R-Rated and a more explicit NC-17 cut. At least that's what he said in 2013 with Collider:

This is just my opinion and this doesn’t mean this is going to happen, but I always thought it would be really cool if we released the R version and then we had an NC-17 version that we released a few weeks later.  So everybody could go and enjoy the R version, and then if they really wanted to see it again and get a little bit more gritty with it then have that NC-17 version out there as well.

Of course, that wasn't a realistic option for the studio and Brunetti said recently that the NC-17 version was just an idea of his and that the studio wasn't all too happy about it.

No, I got trouble for that. It was just an idea that I had. That was never the plan. But I still think that it's a cool idea, but I'll never go getting myself in trouble again.

Fifty Shades of Grey starts with an "R" rating (for strong sexual content including dialogue, some unusual behavior and graphic nudity, and for language) in US cinemas. The release date is scheduled for February 13th, 2015.
