A Walk Among the Tombstones Cut for UK Theaters

Liam Neeson Thriller Pre-Cut for BBFC 15 Rating

Those past few months weren't the best for England's cinemagoers and the country turns out to be a constant supplier of cut news. Some blockbusters were cut down due to financial motivations of the distributors. Sometimes, a BBFC 15 ratings was too high (see Pompeii or Hercules) and other times, the BBFC 18 classification was not acceptable for the studios. The latter happened to two films in the timespan of just a few days. The Denzel Washington-led thriller The Equalizer was cut down for a 15 rating and is now joined by Liam Neeson in A Walk Among the Tombstones. The BBFC's database has the following to say about the cuts:

This work was originally seen for advice. The company was advised that the film was likely to receive an 18 certificate but that their preferred 15 classification could be achieved by making cuts to reduce a scene of sexualised threat and to remove an accompanying aggressive use of very strong language directed at a woman. When the finished version of the film was submitted for formal classification, edits had been made to this scene. The formal submission was consequently rated 15.

Here, the big question for UK film fans will once again be whether that theatrical version will stay in cinemas or whether those cuts will continue on the DVD/BD releases later on. This has become somewhat of a 50/50 chance as of late. We'll see how it turns out after A Walk Among the Tombstones had its theatrical run in the UK starting on September 19th, 2014.
