Evil Dead - Extended Version Arrives on Home Video
Fede Alvarez' Evil Dead (2013) had to be censored for the "R" rating in the US, which had consequences for the rest of the world, as well. Only this one version was shown in theaters and released on home video later on.
Despite Fede Alvarez talked about the cuts, he called the theatrical version his approved cut, although true fans had a point when they argued that only the uncensored unrated version would qualify as the director's version. Suprisingly, this version, which runs almost five minutes longer (see comparison), was shown on British TV accidentally. The TV station aired a master that was unintentionally sent to them by Sony Pictures.
Since the franchise has reached a new peak with the reboot movie and the TV series Ash vs. Evil Dead, the studio seems to think that the time may be right to drop the Extended Cut. Fede Alvarez has announced that a release in October could happen.
