Once Upon a Deadpool

original title: Deadpool 2

Comparison:

  • Once Upon a Deadpool (PG-13)
  • Theatrical Version (R-Rated)
Release: Dec 29, 2020 - Author: Mike Lowrey - Translator: Mike Lowrey - external link: IMDB
Dialog Censorship
1:21:23: In the R-Rated, Cable reacts more offended to Deadpool's accusation of racism, and Deadpool also says something else in response.

R-Rated: "What the hell are you...?" [...] "I'm not a fucking racist, moron!"
- "Tell that to Black Tom. He was like a brother to me."

PG-13: "I'm sorry?"
- "Apology accepted. This is a side of you I do not like. Let me guess, some of your best friends in the future are Indian."
- "What the hell are you...?" [...] "I'm not a racist, moron!"
- "Precisely what a racist would say."
The PG-13 runs 4.84 sec. longer

Dialog Censorship
1:21:49: Cable curses only in the R-Rated.

R-Rated: "Your entire generation fucked this planet into a coma."
PG-13: "Your entire generation failed this planet into a coma."
No time difference

Dialog Censorship
1:22:01: Here is sometimes the R-Rated and sometimes the PG-13 longer. Censorship background has the removal of Cable's line, "You're not a fucking hero."

Otherwise, the R-Rated has Domino saying she'd take an Uber next time. In the PG-13, she wishes she was on a bus where she could just get off. Deadpool says that she would certainly have to sit in the back if Cable was driving - to which she replies that she already does.
The PG-13 runs 1.4 sec longer

Alternate Material
1:22:23: This sequence took the PG-13 out of the EX. When Deadpool asks Colossus for help, both versions have different takes, with the DC being longer. In the R-Rated, Deadpool recites his speech and Colossus first tries to ignore it and stay in bed. In the DC, he steps out onto the roof deck and listens. Deadpool says, "But even you know I'm not a complete piece of shit! I was once an X-Man!". Teenage Negasonic Warhead shouts from the background, "Trainee!" and throws his radio out of his hand. Otherwise, Deadpool is a bit more verbose in his attempted recruitment of the others for the mission. Colossus tells him in the DC that he is a criminal and has broken his heart. Deadpool says that Colossus doesn't have his heart in the right place then.

We also want to mention the censorship of the dialogs made in the course of the scene:

R-Rated: "You trusted me. I took that trust and turned it into a glory hole in an airport bathroom."
PG-13: "You trusted me. I took that trust and turned it into a toilet stall in an airport bathroom."

R-Rated: "Doing the right thing is sometimes messy and , and not particularly convenient! So stay here in Chateau de Virgin while we go get our fuck on!"
PG-13: "Doing the right thing is sometimes messy and not particularly convenient! So stay here in Chateau de Virgin while we go get our game on!"
The PG-13 runs 9.6 sec. longer
PG-13R-Rated

1:24:24: A vulgar dialog between Firefist and Juggernaut was cut.

Firefist: "What do you say we go fuck some shit up?"
Juggernaut: ""Let's fuck some shit up" is my legal middle name."
7.36 sec.

Alternate Material
1:25:01: When Deadpool realizes that his gag about Cable carrying a bear was out of place, he says in the R-Rated that he wishes he could travel back in time and take it back. In the DC, he tries to cover it up with some kind of high-five saying. We know this difference from the EX.
The R-Rated runs 8.32 sec. longer

Dialog Censorship
1:25:44: As the group runs off, an F-word has been removed from the song in the PG-13.
No time difference

Dialog Censorship
1:26:06:

R-Rated:
Cable: "Told you this little fucker's too far gone."
Deadpool: "Zip it, Thanos! We have a deal and you fuck--"
Juggernaut: "I'm gonna shove that cab driver right up your ass"

PG-13:
Cable: "I told you he was too far gone."
Deadpool: "Zip it, Thanos! We have a deal and you forgot--"
Juggernaut: "I'm gonna shove that cab driver right up your tailpipe"
1.32 sec.

Extended scene in the PG-13
1:26:22: The squad's first encounter with Juggernaut basically plays out the same way, but in between Deadpool is not allowed to say "Oh, shit fuck!" in the PG-13. For this, the PG-13 seamlessly transitions into the extension of the action scene with Domino, which you know from the EX.

The cool ending to an action scene where Domino is chased by Juggernaut is missing in the R-Rated. In the PG-13 (and EX) we see Domino throwing her gun away and Juggernaut slipping on it. He falls on a seesaw, thus throwing Domino into the air. Cable throws her a gun and she fires it at Juggernaut. After the shot initially looks like a dud, it then explodes at Juggernaut's helmet and a large fireball hurls them all away.
8.92 sec.

1:28:00: Deadpool's sexual sign language towards Colossus had to give way in the PG-13, of course.
11.16 sec

Alternate Material
1:28:17: When Colossus pulls the iron bar out of Deadpool's head, some blood spurts - the PG-13 just cut earlier here. And then they retouched the bar lying on the ground too, because in the R-Rated it's bloody.
0.32 sec.
PG-13R-Rated

1:29:02: The fight between Colossus and Juggernaut was cut in the PG-13 in several places. Missing, for instance, is a kick to Colossus' chest and how he builds a stabbing weapon with a pole from the fence, which he then stabs first into Juggernaut's eye and then into his crotch. Also missing is an elbow strike to Juggernaut's head.
17.12 sec.

1:29:43: Also removed is the beginning of the fight between Deadpool and Cable with the guards.
6.04 sec

1:29:55: There are a few small cuts in the PG-13 in this block of fight sequences, consisting of duels between Domino and the guards, Colossus & Juggernaut, and Deadpool and Cable against the guards, which we summarize here.
34.68 sec.

Dialog Censorship
1:31:21: Cable insults Deadpool, but he takes it in stride.

Cable: "You got 30 seconds, you jabbering butt plug!"
Deadpool: "Now we're getting it!"
3.52 sec.

Dialog Censorship
1:32:14: Deadpool curses only in the R-Rated: "Don't you fucking dare!"
5.76 sec.

Dialog Censorship
1:32:32: Juggernaut's metaphor for his planned interaction with Colossus is more vulgar in the R-Rated.

R-Rated: "I'm gonna melt you down and make a cock ring."
PG-13: "I'm gonna make a necklace out of your teeth."
No time difference

1:32:37: Missing is how Juggernaut holds Colossus in the genital area, and Juggernaut's demise is a bit more naked, as Colossus rips open his pants, revealing Juggernaut's exposed butt. Colossus also puts the power cable in there a little later. Before Juggernaut is thrown into the pool, you see that again. The PG-13 avoids that several times, and in one shot he's even digitally dressed again.
3.52 sec.
PG-13R-Rated

Dialog Censorship
1:33:36: It should not be concealed that the R-Rated shows the angry Firefist in more detail and once he is allowed to shout: "I'm getting good at this shit.". Whether that's censorship is probably debatable, since the S-word has been dropped many times in the PG-13.

Unquestionably relevant to censorship is the following sentence from Cable:

R-Rated: "He even runs like a fucking pervert."
PG-13: "He even runs like a pervert."
13.04 sec.

Dialog Censorship
1:34:32: Deadpool gets muddled in dialog with Firefist, while the choice of words is not always PG. It is therefore missing in the PG-13.

Firefist: "How do you know what I want?"
Deadpool: "Because I've been inside you. That came out wrong. I've been inside your shoes. Which is also off-putting. It's not a great analogy. The point is, there are people... There are people in this fucking world, besides him, who will treat you right."
16.72 sec.

Alternate Material
1:36:30: When Deadpool is hit by the bullet in mid-air, there is blood only in the R-Rated.
No time difference
PG-13R-Rated

Alternate Material
1:37:09: The bullet hole in Deadpool's suit is larger in the R-Rated than in the PG-13.
No time difference
PG-13R-Rated

Dialog Censorship
1:39:41: Wade asks Colossus to say the F-word for him once, which he does somewhat reluctantly. In the R-Rated, you hear the term, in the PG-13 there is talk of the "F-word" and when Colossus says it, there is a beep.
No time difference

1:40:17: In the R-Rated, more of Wade's parting words remained in between. No censorship, just time saving.
41.68 sec

New scene in the PG-13
1:42:17: When Wade and Vanessa meet again, there are minor differences in the shots, but they are not worth mentioning. More important is a new scene with Fred coming to tears and Deadpool calling him on it. At first, Fred tries to blame it on the dusty environment, but then admits it and he and Deadpool shake hands. Deadpool then continues reading aloud.
- 30.52 sec.

Dialog censorship
1:45:15: Wade and Vanessa exchange different words.

R-Rated:
Wade: "Don't fuck Elvis."
Vanessa: "Don't fuck Colossus."
Wade: "What?"

PG-13:
Vanessa: "It's all right. I'll be waiting. It's pretty awesome up here. I can have anything I want."
Wade: "Can every day be International Women's Day?"
Vanessa: "It is heaven."
No time difference

Dialog Censorship
1:47:38: Deadpool's sentence is more suggestive in the R-Rated and so is Cable's reaction.

R-Rated:
Deadpool:"Let's go tip to tip There we go. The kids call this docking Is there a knife in my dick?"
Cable: "There's a knife in your dick, yeah."

PG-13:
Deadpool: "Let's go tummy to tummy There we go. The kids call this tummying Is there a knife in my lower extremities?"
Cable: "There's a knife in your leg, yeah."
No time difference

Alternate Material
1:48:19: When the headmaster is hit by the cab, it is only bloody in the R-Rated. The blood trail on the ground is also only visible there.
No time difference
PG-13R-Rated

1:48:30: Dopinder cheers even more vulgarly and Domino says something along those lines, too.

R-Rated:
Dopinder:"Whoo! Courage, motherfuckers!"
Domino:"And karma, motherfucker."

PG-13: "Whoo! Courage is my power!"
The PG-13 runs 0.2 sec. longer

Dialog Censorship
1:48:41: Colossus seems to have acquired a taste for bad language.

R-Rated: "We should leave before Fuckernaut wakes up."
PG-13: "We should leave before Fudgernaut wakes up."
No time difference

Alternate Material
1:48:56: An enhancement from the EX. In the PG-13, Negasonic is saying that her door is always open. Deadpool retorts that he's not ready for dating, certainly not with two women at once. She soberly says, "God, you're a douche...". In the R-Rated, she just turns away without a word.
The PG-13 runs 6.72 sec. longer

Dialog Censorship
1:49:18: Deadpool's off-commentary has a curse word in the R-Rated.

R-Rated: "If there's anything you take away today other than the need to Google, "What the fuck is dubstep?", it's that we all need to belong to someone."
PG-13: "If there's anything you take away today other than the need to Google, "What the heck is dubstep?", it's that we all need to belong to someone."
No time difference

Alternate Material
1:49:31: Yes, the credits were not spared from censorship either. The PG-13 is more harmless with a few images. Sometimes violence, sometimes language.
No time difference
PG-13R-Rated

New scene in the PG-13
PG-13: 1:48:47: Deadpool and Fred gush over post-credit scenes.
- 15.6 sec

Alternate Material
1:52:07: In the R-Rated, the knife hits the attacker's forehead, causing him to fall to the ground, dead. In the PG-13, it cuts beforehand and he is shown falling to the ground in the background by Wade.
The R-Rated runs 3.8 sec longer
PG-13R-Rated

Extended scene in the PG-13
1:52:28: Deadpool tells Peter that "X-Force" is just a marketing tool to keep Josh Brolin in the contract and that it doesn't exist in real life. Peter accepts this and also says that he has to feed his cat anyway.
- 6.84 sec.

1:53:03: With the old Deadpool, you can see the bloody headshot and a little later the real one shoots the corpse several more times. In the PG-13, there is no blood and also no shots are visible.
The R-Rated runs 4.04 sec. longer

Alternate Material
1:53:25: The Green Lantern script is splattered with lots of blood from the headshot in the R-Rated, in the PG-13 there is only one clean bullet hole. Also, only the R-Rated still shows Ryan Reynolds with a bloody headshot wound and him slumping forward. The PG-13 cut that and only shows a few frames of it when the wound is no longer visible.
The R-Rated runs 2.72 sec longer
PG-13R-Rated

New scene in the PG-13
1:56:51: Fred asks if he can leave now, he can't feel his legs. Deadpool cuts the tape and Fred wants to get off, but can't hold on because of his numb legs. Panicked, he clings to Deadpool, who tells him to take it easy, he's been asleep for three days. Fred is stunned by this. Deadpool helps him out of the room and asks if someone could bring Fred some Starbucks. The camera moves away a bit and you can better see that the childhood room is a movie set, because a cameraman can be seen.
- 38.44 sec.
