Before dinner Takeda tells how hard and dangerous the fight against the ninjas was. He tells the people that they can now eat.

A scene follows in which Oshima works on the sword. John trains in the background. Oshima starts throwing hot coals at him, which Paul fends off.

John and Oshima will drink sake together afterwards. John wants to ask Oshima something about Takeda, but he only touches his head.

Mieko comes into the room with the apparently drunk Takeda. He listens on the ground and is afraid. He says that the spirits are restless and thirst for revenge. He will go crazy if it doesn't end soon and wants to destroy the Kinjo and Takeda family. He gets angry because Mieko just sits there and says nothing. Mieko thinks that this is all wrong and that instead of the once noble goals she only sees barbarity. She tells Takeda that he is not the only one who wants to end this thing.

Mieko runs through the garden and is surprised by Paul, who tells that he was with Oshima. He accompanies her to the hot spring. Paul notices that there is no separation by gender. Mieko reassures him because she has already seen his bare upper body at the station. Paul first goes into the water and tells Mieko how satisfied and fulfilled he felt with Kirina during the night. Mieko undresses and climbs into the water. The two kiss. Mieko realizes that she makes a mistake and leaves. She tells Paul that this never happened.

Mieko goes back to Takeda who sleeps on the floor. She covers him with her kimono. Takeda apologizes to her. Mieko thinks that she has disappointed him and wants to stand by his side in the future.
