Warrior and the Ninja, The

original title: Jaka Sembung dan Bajing Ireng

Comparison:

  • BBFC 18
  • Uncut
Release: Feb 28, 2022 - Author: Muck47 - Translator: Mike Lowrey - external link: IMDB

Comparison between the cut British BBFC 18 VHS by Videoline and the uncut version (the latter included on the German Blu-ray/DVD mediabook by Mr. Banker Films / Cargo Records).

- 6 relevant missing parts
- Cut duration: 16.8 sec

A few additional master errors with a duration of less than 0.5 sec each were not listed in the report.

The Warrior and the Ninja is once again a trash vehicle for Indonesian star Barry Prima. In this comparison, we turn our attention to the British VHS. Like the German VHS release, this was zoomed to full frame, though still relatively normal in color and not as darkened as its German counterpart. There was also nowhere near as much missing as in Germany: the plot here remained complete in any case, with only a few peaks of violence having to give way for the BBFC rating.

Runtimes are ordered as follows: British VHS in PAL / German Uncut DVD in PAL

The opening credits in English vs. Indonesian. During this sequence, the full frame of the VHS is not yet zoomed in, but only stretched up. Curious is the fact that Zurmainy Terry is more prominently placed in the credits.

02:33 / 02:39-02:42

After the final director's credit, the woman is seen on the floor a bit longer - see previous comparison image. The follow-up shot begins earlier: Uncle Bagos enters through the door.

2,8 sec

Introducing a small picture comparison: Due to the zoomed full screen, again some things are suppressed on the VHS. While the German version was darkened at that time, bright details (last comparison picture) are completely lost in white on the British. Pest and Cholera in VHS times - the new HD master is a small revelation in that regard.

19:27 / 19:36

Template error: The people are gathered a little earlier.

0,6 sec

16:06 / 16:11-16:15

When the female assassin turns around, there is a rough jump cut. Actually, she still takes out throwing stars and bloodily hits a couple of attackers with them in two shots.

4,1 sec

39:08 / 39:18-39:19

Template error: Baijin turns back to Maruta after he throws the sword at her.

0,6 sec

52:03 / 52:14-52:16

Slightly longer template error: The scene with Maruta and the tree trunk starts a bit earlier.

2 sec

83:18 / 83:31-83:33

Slightly longer template error: Demang longer and the follow-up shot of the girls in the jungle insignificantly earlier.

2,4 sec

92:24 / 92:39-92:42

Bajin punches her opponent in the face in the last frames of a shot as well as in several close-ups.

3,3 sec

92:38 / 92:57-92:59

Bajin pulls her opponent's face apart for longer. The skin comes off in a trashy, flabby way.

Note: In contrast to the German VHS, at least the beginning of the shot can still be seen. As soon as it gets a bit bloody at the scalp, the cut starts for the British.

2,2 sec

The end fade-in has been recreated. In the HD master, it was in Indonesian, finally on Blu-ray in English as usual - but placed slightly differently in the picture.
