Reshot scene in the HK version: Chin complains about the rice. He then goes up to Kenny (who appears considerably older and has much longer hair than in the rest of the film) and tells him that he is going hunting now and will bring him a steak. Kenny then throws his rice away as well.

In Korea, a brief shot of Julie is shown instead.

Shortly thereafter, we see Kenny and one of Chan's mercenaries (the guy with the flamethrower - is his name ever mentioned in the course of the movie?!) eating the rice that is so frowned upon in the HKversion.

More reshoots in the HK version: First, a scene that is so incredibly stupid and out of place that even those responsible at Golden Harvest were probably too embarrassed to include it. It was left out of pretty much every (if not all) release up until the early 2000s: Chin gets a soapy massage from one of Louis' girls. Anyone feeling inclined to see that rubbish in more detail may do so here.

Afterwards, the rest of the gang indulge in some pot smoking. Drug lord Samton refuses the offered joint: he keeps his hands off that stuff. This is followed by a cheesy sex scene.

The Korean version features more drama and character development instead. After a fade to black, Little Kenny has nightmares and is soothed by Louis' girl. Julie and Chan watch. Here, Chan notices for the first time that Louis' girl bears a striking resemblance to his deceased wife. Visibly shaken, Chan leaves the room and relieves Chin of his guard duties. The French woman briefly talks to Julie about Chan, then goes over to him and tries to seduce him. Chan politely declines.

It should be noted that an alternate version of this scene was also shot, wherein the French woman starts to disrobe before Chan refuses her advances. This was featured in a lobby card for the Hong Kong release, despite the scene being cut for the HK release altogether.

Had "Sunset Warriors" seen a timely release in Hong Kong, it would almost certainly have contained the alternate takes of the topless Cecile Le Bailly. However, please note that to this day John Woo steadfastly denies having shot any nudity for this film (including her open blouse in the earlier scene at the border post and the deleted alternate seduction scene - both of which clearly appear to have been shot during principal photography in Thailand). In that sense one might argue that - regardless of who shot the scenes in question - the nudity-free Korean version is arguably closer to Woo's intentions than a theoretical "Sunset Warriors" would have been, had it featured nudity.

In the HK version, the colonel gives his troops the signal to attack by firing his gun (which is only heard off-screen). In the Korean version, Chan beats him to the punch as he notices the approaching soldiers and starts shooting.

While Louis mourns his dead girlfriend, the Colonel continues to beat his guys with a stick (and doesn't let himself be distracted by the explosions all around him).

1:03:09
Another act of cinrmstic vandalism, as another one of the coolest parts of the whole film is lost in the HK version: while everything is blowing up all around him, the Colonel leisurely struts towards the hut. Chan and his men realize for the first time that he is the commander of the border post. Louis moves calmly towards the commander. The fuse on his dynamite sticks is lit and for a moment it seems as if he wants to commit suicide out of grief for his murdered girlfriend. In the last second he throws away the dynamite and kills some soldiers.

1:03:23
The shootout is lightened up by a short gag: Louis throws a grenade at the soldiers, but it doesn't explode. The soldiers are already feeling safe when Louis pulls out a remote detonator and blows up the troops.
