I Spit on Your Grave 2 at the London Frightfest
In 2010, the London Frightfest wanted to include two entries in its line-up which didn't exactly hold back on sexual violence. Those were A Serbian Film and I Spit on Your Grave and the BBFC wasn't too happy with them. They demanded cuts, which led the festival managers to kick the Serbian production out of the programme because the censorship was too massive. The modern rape'n'revenge film was shown in a censored version.
For this year's Frighfest, the sequel I Spit on Your Grave 2 is announced to premier on August 25th, 2013. So far, so good. But the same difficulties the first film had to deal with seem to be in sight for the sequel, as well. The organizers announced that a "special festival cut" will be shown which has been produced specifically for the festival:
Of course, that leaves room for speculation and the most likely scenario is that the sequel won't be too much in line with the BBFC's guidelines and that the producers therefore assembled a version for the London festival audience. The following weeks should clear things up because it is to be expected that the BBFC will rate the film in the near future before the DVD/Blu-ray release in October.
The completely uncensored Unrated Cut of the movie will be out in the US on September 24th, 2013. You can order it at Amazon.com.
