Another classic. Even though the popculture of the 90s is quite present, THE CROW is considered a cult movie by many people and its atmosphere is quite sinister.

Unfortunately, THE CROW needed to be censored before its release in order to get the R-Rating. And there is missing a lot. Uncommonly extreme, a lot of violence during the entire movie is more moderate. Especially shortly after its release, the alterations were a huge issue and resulted in many debates caused by frustation in several message boards.

As often, the debates were heated up by the existence of a workprint which contains the fully uncensored version of the movie. Too bad that the image and sound quality is not the cream of the crop which makes it only interesting for die-hard fans. The Crow shares the fate of many other movies listed in this special: it was released a decade too early. In a decade where the advertizing appeal of so-called Unrated Versions did not exist yet. This year, it is The Crow's 20th anniversary. It would be the perfect opportunity to finally release the uncensored version. Due to its status of a 90s classic - also because of Brandon Lee's tragic death during the shooting - it is very hard to imagine that an uncensored version, for instance on Blu-ray with a lot of bonus material, would not attract enough buyers to make it profitable. But that will be a dream forever I'm afraid.
