Recut
67:32-67:34 bzw 67:44 / 72:48 bzw 72:58-73:00

An additional shot of the cheering dwarves is shown in the Theatrical Edition first, in the EE it comes 10 seconds later.

Mirroring
67:34-67:35 / 72:48-72:49

When Thranduil is shown afterwards, for the EE his image has been mirrored.

Theatrical EditionExtended Edition

Digital Effect
67:44-69:25 / 73:00-74:38

A curious detail: not only is Dain's shot longer in the TE; it also shows his army standing just behind him, as opposed to the EE. This is also valid for several subsequential shots of Dain after identical cuts to Gandalf/Bilbo. Also, the background has been reworked in terms of color grading.

Theatrical Edition is 3 sec longer

Theatrical EditionExtended Edition

Alternative Scene
68:21-68:28 / 73:34-73:41

This shot is slightly different from the previous block of shots: because of the lack of Dain's army behind him the overall perspective has been changed, so that this is obviously an alternative shot.

Alternative scene
69:27-69:58 / 74:40-77:19

Now there is an alternative part of the battle. Only in the EE there is a short skirmish between Dain's dwarves and Thranduil's Elven host.

In the Extended Edition, Dain provokes Thranduil a bit longer onscreen (in the TE he says the same line before over a shot of Thranduil) and rides away. The following shot of the cheering dwarves is an alternative shot and after a new shot of Gandalf there is an alternative comment by Thranduil in the EE.

Theatrical Edition:

Thranduil: "He's clearly mad, like his cousin."
Dain: "You hear that, lads? We're on! Let's give these bastards a good hammering!"

Extended Edition:

Thranduil: "Let them advance. See how far they get."
Dain: "Ya think I give a dead dog for your threats, you pointy-eared Princess?! Ya hear that, lads? We're on! Let's give these bastards a good hammering!"
Thranduil: "Stand your men down. I'll deal with Ironfoot and his rabble."
Dain rides up and commands: "Right, then. Let's get this done. Send in the goats!"
Several goats rush forward as Thranduil's archers prepare to loose arrows.
Gandalf: "Thranduil! This is madness!"

A battle begins: Thranduil's arrows are surprisingly diverted by large spinning projectiles.
Dain: "Hey! How do you like the old twirly-whirlies?! Ha ha, you buggers!"

The battle continues. Dain's dwarves overrun some of Thranduil's elves. Suddenly, there are loud noises from the mountains, and the battle pauses.

Extended Edition 128,3 sec (= 2:08 min) longer

Digital Effect
70:08-70:11 / 77:29-77:32

Shortly after that, in a shot of Dain, the background is replaced entirely.

Theatrical EditionExtended Edition

Alternative scene
70:18-70:20 / 77:39-77:40

Here we have (again because of a different position of Thranduil due to the fight that happened in the EE only) a different reaction shot.

Theatrival Edition 1 sec longer

Theatrical EditionExtended Edition

Alternative scene
70:39-70:45 / 77:59-78:12

After Azog has summoned his army, Dain's warriors prepare for battle differently.

TE: "To the battle, sons of Durin!"
EE: "Fight to the death!"

Extended Edition 6,3 sec longer

Theatrical EditionExtended Edition

Digital Effect
70:58-71:21 / 78:25-78:46

In the upper left corner, and some identical shots later, in the upper right corner of the frame there are more troops present in the Theatrical Edition.

Theatrical EditionExtended Edition

71:12-71:14 / 78:39

In the Theatrical Edition Gandalf says his line at last: "This is madness!" (in the EE it came earlier during the scene 69:27-69:58 / 74:40-77:19).

+ 1,6 sec

Digital Effect
72:21-72:26 / 79:46-79:51

Only in the Extended Edition there are some trolls fighting behind Gandalf.

72:29 / 79:54-80:34

A longer extension of the battle. Azog sends in his ogres in order to destroy the dwarves' chariots. This attack is actually the reason for Azog's following explanation about fighting on two fronts.
