Runtimes:
Jennifer 8 was made in 1992 at a time in Hollywood when serial killer films were particularly fashionable - not least, of course, fueled by the success of The Silence of the Lambs. In this case, director and screenwriter Bruce Robinson was probably not entirely satisfied from the outset, as he had created the main character as a washed-up, older cop, but the studio insisted on heartthrob Andy Garcia. Both Robinson and Garcia himself also emphasized that several scenes were cut that would have had a significant impact on the film. There was talk of an alcoholic excess and a much longer interrogation with John Malkovich's character.
In January 2024, Shout Factory released an extended version of the film for the first time in the USA. As suggested by the alternative ending, which can also be selected individually in the bonus material and is included on this disc for the first time ever, the film only differs in this scene directly before the credits. The finale always seemed a little abrupt in theatrical version and is now supplemented here by another confrontation, and Garcia's character also appears and is ultimately (unsurprisingly: spoiler!) responsible for the killer's death. Basically just a small consolation in view of the production problems described above, but the movie still feels a little more "complete" this way.

Alternative
121:30-121:38 / 121:30-125:47 After the first two shots, the Extended Margie says: “Call the police now!” Her companion immediately runs out and Margie goes to Helena to calm her down. She leads her into an adjoining room and says that she will be back in two minutes. Helena is left alone and hears noises shortly afterwards. She asks several times if it is Margie until Taylor suddenly appears in front of her. As he approaches menacingly, John suddenly comes through the door and shoots Taylor. He then leads Helena out to sentimental music.
In the theatrical version, Taylor is seen on the ground again instead and Margie fires another shot. There is a smooth fade to the scene with Helena and John outside, which then follows in the extended version as well.
