In the same year as the Van Damme classic Hard Target, the Lorenzo Lamas vehicle Final Round was also made and both are not dissimilar, because both times it is about a manhunt for the amusement of a wealthy audience. Unlike Hard Target, however, Final Round sank into obscurity. Due to its cheaper production style in a cramped location, this is hardly surprising, although there are also a few colorful characters that actually make the whole thing quite consumable. The German DVD premiere by Imperial Pictures (distributed by Cargo Records) also features an extended version that ran on US TV as a bonus in addition to the uncut version. It has both the scene to offer, which was already on board on the Dutch release, as well as additional material that gives the characters a bit more background and thus actually represents the better film version. Action purists won't be rewarded with any additional spectacle here, though - that would have suited the film, whose fighting elements are rather average. Comparison between the R-rated DVD and the longer U.S. TV broadcast. 4 additional/extended scenes: 557.6 sec. or approx. 9 min. 18 sec. 0:09:40: Tyler and Carlos are talking in the locker room. Tyler talks to Carlos about the previous fight, in which Carlos treated his opponent rather rudely and whether that wasn't too hard, but Carlos counters that you have to be able to endure something like that. Tyler then asks ironically if Carlos knows what he likes about him. When Carlos wants to hear the answer, Tyler jokes that he doesn't know either. Carlos then asks him what he is doing tonight. Tyler plans to have a few drinks at Malone's ("Jack," of course). Carlos is surprised, because Tyler is in the program for alcoholics anonymous, but he says that these sessions are only three days a week and today is Saturday. The flimsy reasoning leaves Carlos rather shaking his head.
48.24 Sec.
0:26:51: A longer montage in which the hunters are seen shadowboxing and staring sternly around. Also, the dialogue between Tyler, Trevon, and Jordan begins earlier. Here Tyler asks Trevon still half-ironically if he is from the area and if he has family. Trevon is rather annoyed by this and then gets into it with Jordan, who complains by return of post that he constantly calls her a "bitch". According to him, though, that's just a figure of speech. 104.96 Sec.
0:31:46: Several action scenes that, as a block, account for more than four minutes of footage. Delgado's associate is called by Delgado and informed that Monroe's bet has now been accepted after all. Monroe is shown repeatedly in between with his lover, who at first is not particularly thrilled that he prefers to watch the live show instead of having fun with her, but then does watch it with him and calls it "snuff TV," which he finds funny. Meanwhile, Delgado informs one of the hitmen about the bet and he can hardly believe it. In addition, we see Tyler calming down the nervous Jordan and also Trevon sneaking around the compound alone. 249.8 Sec.
0:37:09: Delgado has short one-on-one conversations with his killers. Lang doesn't feel much like talking to him about his family, Halsey is asked not to spill so much blood, and hitwoman Kat offers him sexual services (again) if he helps her with hints. In between, he signs off on Monroe's bet and we see Tyler and Jordan again. Tyler asks how she is feeling and she replies that she is just having the time of her life. He tries to cheer her up, saying it could be worse. When she asks what would be worse, he realizes himself that his statement makes rather little sense. 154.6 Sec.
