At the end of the 80s, the then unknown German director Olaf Ittenbach shot his first amateur splatter film Black Past, where he also wrote the script, created masks and gore effects and even took the lead role. Since relatively little budget was available, he asked friends, acquaintances and family members to participate as actors, while most of the money went into the effects and they are the main focus here and of course in his other films. With a lot of love and skillful craftsmanship, Ittenbach created extremely neat splatter effects by amateur standards, with all sorts of brutalities captured on camera in great detail. So it's no wonder that Ittenbach's films didn't have an easy time on the German market and were severely cut. In the 90s, Ittenbach then shot his two films Premutos and Burning Moon. As with Black Past, the professionalism of these two works lies exclusively in the brutal gore scenes. It was not until early 2000 that Ittenbach slowly shed his amateur image and, thanks to a larger budget and growing experience, was able to develop his films further, where he later became internationally known. Sometimes more, sometimes less good are his films and in the end they are of course not for everyone, yet one cannot doubt that there is a large and loyal fan community. As for the versions, Black Past came out uncut and unrated on VHS and DVD in Germany. Later, a heavily cut FSK 18 version was released on DVD for German department stores. But it gets interesting with the uncut version, because it comes in two different versions, the "Old Version" and the "Director's Cut". The old version was released on video and later on DVD in the Olaf Ittenbach Collection. The Director's Cut was also released on VHS as a reissue in the early 2000s and on various DVD editions by Laser Paradise. The differences between the old version and the Director's Cut are immense, as a close comparison between the two versions has now shown that there are a whopping 429 changes in total. In the complete course of the film, there are completely new shots every second in the Director's Cut, but also in the old version. Whole scenes, or even just short shots, were shot differently in both versions, or are partly shown at different playback speeds. Besides some changes in the plot, the Director's Cut also offers much more gore and for that reason alone, this version is highly recommended. Fortunately, the Director's Cut is the dominant version on the market. The Old Version was compared with the Director's Cut. Both versions are in the Olaf Ittenbach Collection by Laser Paradise. There are a total of 429 differences. They are new scenes or shots in the old version as well as in the Director's Cut. There are also alternatively shot scenes in both versions with slight variations, extended or shortened shots, and scenes with different playback speeds. 0 min
